If you’re heading to Pendeen today, pack for sunshine and showers — the live forecast above shows how quickly Atlantic weather can shift along this exposed stretch of the north Cornwall coast.

What makes Pendeen’s weather different from nearby towns?

Pendeen faces the open Atlantic, so it catches weather sooner and more directly than sheltered spots such as Penzance or St Ives. The difference can be marked even over a few miles.

  • Often a degree or two cooler than Penzance in summer, with a stronger breeze off the sea
  • Rain bands arrive from the west ahead of most inland Cornwall locations — check the live forecast above before setting out
  • Fog — known locally as “fret” — can form quickly when mild air meets the cooler sea surface, particularly in spring

When does Pendeen see its best weather?

Spring and autumn tend to bring the most settled spells for walkers and photographers, but the live forecast above gives the clearest short-term view for planning a trip.

  • Late spring often delivers the sunniest conditions, though sea breezes keep temperatures moderate
  • September and October can produce calm, warm spells as the sea retains its summer warmth
  • Winter brings frequent gales — the met office weather pendeen page is worth checking before travelling, and our 10-day forecast helps with longer-range plans

How reliable are forecasts for this exposed coast?

Forecasts from the Met Office and BBC Weather are generally reliable for Pendeen, but conditions can change rapidly. BBC News and the bbc weather pendeen feed both provide useful updates. Always check the live forecast above on the morning of your visit, especially if you plan to walk the coast path.

Why does Pendeen get more fog than inland Cornwall?

Sea fog, or “fret”, forms when warm, moist air moves across the cooler Atlantic waters near Pendeen. It is most common in late spring and early summer, and can reduce visibility to a few hundred metres within minutes. The same phenomenon affects treen weather along the same stretch of coast.

Is Pendeen windier than Penzance or Treen?

Yes, generally. Pendeen’s north-facing coast catches the full force of Atlantic winds, whereas Penzance is more sheltered by Mount’s Bay. Treen, being slightly inland, also sees less wind than the Pendeen headland. For a wider comparison, visit our UK weather hub.
