Editorial Policy

RegionalReport.co.uk is published by Regional Report Media Ltd., a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 17143892), with its registered office at 3 New Bailey Street, 5th Floor, Manchester M3 5FS, United Kingdom. Editorial responsibility for all content published on the site rests with the Editor-in-Chief, Margaret Ellison. This Editorial Policy sets out the principles, processes and standards that govern our journalism. It applies to every article, brief, analysis, review, listing and sponsored piece on RegionalReport.co.uk. Our aim is to produce accurate, fair and transparent regional news coverage that serves the public interest across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Editorial process

All editorial content is planned, commissioned and reviewed through a structured workflow overseen by the Managing Editor, Henry Wallace. Story ideas arise from our reporters, from public-interest sources, from local contacts and from tips submitted via our Tip Us page. Every story is assigned to a named writer or editor who is responsible for gathering information, verifying sources and ensuring that the final piece meets our editorial standards. Before publication, articles pass through a headline review and, where appropriate, a fact‑check by Oliver Reeves, our Standards & Fact‑Checking Lead. We adhere to the Sources & Standards guide, which details our approach to sourcing, attribution and verification.

Sensitive story review

Stories that involve vulnerable individuals, allegations of wrongdoing, matters of public safety, court proceedings or significant reputational risk are subject to a dedicated sensitive‑story review. Oliver Reeves leads this process, consulting with the Editor‑in‑Chief and, where necessary, legal advisers. Any article that could cause substantial harm to an individual or organisation is reviewed before publication, and we consider the public interest carefully. We also follow the Safeguarding Minors Policy when reporting on or involving children.

Distinguishing content types

We clearly label every piece of content to help readers understand its nature and purpose:

  • News – factual reporting of events, announcements and developments. News articles are written to be impartial and are reviewed by an editor before publication.
  • Opinion – columns, editorials and commentary pieces that express a viewpoint. Opinion is clearly marked with a label such as “Opinion” or “Comment” and includes the writer’s name and affiliation.
  • Features – longer‑form, in‑depth articles that explore a subject, often including analysis and interviews. Features are reported and edited to the same standards as news.
  • Reviews – critical assessments of cultural events, performances, books, restaurants or other local offerings. Reviews are written by named reviewers and follow the Reviews Policy, which requires disclosure of any free tickets or hospitality received.
  • Listings – event listings and community notices that are provided by organisers or curated by our Culture & Communities team. Listings are clearly marked as such and are not independently reviewed unless stated.
  • Sponsored content – any content that has been paid for by an external partner. Sponsored pieces are always labelled with “Sponsored” or “Promoted” and are produced in accordance with the Sponsored Content Policy. Commercial relationships never influence our editorial conclusions.

Article-level transparency

Every article on RegionalReport.co.uk carries a byline naming the writer or editor responsible, along with a link to Our Team page where readers can find contact details and areas of responsibility. Where a story has been substantially edited or corrected after publication, we add an editor’s note at the top or bottom of the article. We also disclose any potential conflicts of interest, such as a writer’s personal connection to a subject or organisation. Our Corrections Policy explains how we handle errors and clarifications.

Independence and funding

RegionalReport.co.uk is funded through a mix of display advertising, affiliate links, ticketing affiliate partnerships, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, content licensing, event partnerships, local advertising packages and regional business partnerships. Full details are available on the Ownership & Funding page. We operate a strict separation between commercial and editorial functions. No advertiser, sponsor or partner has any influence over our editorial decisions, story selection or the treatment of subjects. Sponsored and commercially supported content is always labelled as such, and our journalists are never asked to write in a way that favours a funder.

Use of artificial intelligence

We may use digital tools, including AI, to assist with research, editing, formatting, translation, metadata generation, headline options, summaries and transcription. All published editorial content is reviewed by a human editor before it goes live. AI is never used to fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience or expert profiles. Our full approach is set out in the AI & Automation Policy.

Complaints and corrections

We take all complaints seriously. If you believe an article is inaccurate, unfair or breaches our editorial standards, please contact us via the Complaints Procedure. We also have a dedicated Contact page and a corrections email at corrections@regionalreport.co.uk. For fact‑checking concerns, you can reach Oliver Reeves at factcheck@regionalreport.co.uk.

Our commitments

  • We will always identify ourselves clearly as a UK-based digital regional news publication and disclose our ownership and funding structure.
  • We will label every piece of content according to its type — news, opinion, feature, review, listing or sponsored — so that readers can assess it appropriately.
  • We will publish the names and contact details of our editorial team and ensure that every article carries a named byline.
  • We will correct errors promptly and transparently, and maintain a public record of corrections and clarifications.
  • We will never allow commercial, political or personal interests to compromise the accuracy, fairness or independence of our journalism.
